Croke Park – host venue of Xperiology’s Stadium Business Summit 2010 – scores world first

Croke Park, the host venue of Xperiology's 2010 Stadium Business Summit, has recorded a global first by becoming the world’s first stadium to receive the coveted BS8901 certificate, making it one of the most sustainable sporting arenas anywhere.

Following on from its achievement last year in achieving the international environmental management standard, ISO14004, Croke Park has once again raised the bar and this time on a global field.

The certification acknowledges excellence in event management and is audited by the international standards group, SGS Ireland.

The stadium will now be used as a case study as part of efforts to ensure that the 2012 London Olympics are the first fully sustainable games ever held.

The headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is now recognised as an example of best practice in the field of sustainability and will be an example for other stadiums to follow. Key aspects of the venue’s management system were deemed to be of such a standard as to allow it to become the first stadium to be certified.

"A major focus of our Stadium Business Summit this year is on the environmental responsibilities and future demands of sustainable stadium management," comments Xperiology co-founder Ian Nuttall. "Therefore, it's only natural that we should be discussing such topics at one of the leading 'green' stadiums in the world."
